02 July 10 Corporate Social Responsibility: 1 June - International Children’s Day

KPMGChildren are the focal point of KPMG’s CSR strategy. And June 1st, the International Children’s Day, marked another opportunity for us to reach out to our communities in particular, by getting involved in various activities for supporting children with limited physical abilities.

 

“Prkutyun” (Salvation) center for disabled children and young people

KPMG CSRThe Center’s mission is to favor solutions to social, educational and healthcare problems of disabled children. For 1 June, the Children’s Day, the Center was planning a gifts day for children and KPMG Armenia made its contribution in the form of monetary donation for gifts to children. KPMG Armenia CSR team witnessed the immensity of work carried out (around 400 children registered, around 40 visiting daily). The children have a chance to live a more colorful life than they otherwise would. The Center, particularly:

  • encourages self-expression of disabled children by removing psycho-personal barriers
  • renders assistance to disabled children, particularly, mentally retarded children with their education and integration into the society
  • assists disabled children in acquiring professional, c raft and computer skills through training
  • promotes disabled children’s spiritual and cultural development. The children are involved in various activities depending on their interests.
  • raises awareness among disabled children’s parents of the rights and duties of their children through mass media and other campaigns

 

“Ekho” NGO

KPMG CSRThis organization is an NGO supporting the socially unsupported and disabled children. The founder is a mother of a boy who w as disabled from childhood, and could not walk but then by a miracle he started walking again . Now he is one of the organizers at the NGO. On 1 June Ekho was among the many NGOs who delighted the children with a music show, followed by a gifts-giving event for 100 children. Among the upcoming and very interesting projects currently under development is the capital renovation of premises in Masis region and turning it into a center for disabled children’s professional education, psychological, legal and other type of support. The primary objective is to prepare the disabled children as useful and educated members of the society, able to earn their own living.

Monetary assistance was provided as a corporate contribution to Ekho NGO by KPMG Armenia. The funds will be used for buying digital earphones for children with limited hearing as well as for assisting those with leukemia.
